Tomorrow's Leaders

Orakei Youth Council arranged an exciting day of events for their local schools. Students from Selwyn, Glendowie, St Cuthbert's Colleges and Baradene College of the Sacred Heart attended the day. 35 students from Year 11 to 13 signed up for the full and busy day.

iSpeak Trust along with Rainbow Youth and the Youth Council for Orakei each ran three one-hour sessions. Students were divided into three groups and rotated through the activities.

iSpeak shared with the three groups a toolbox of strategies for public speaking and addressed some reservations students have for public speaking. The students got the opportunity to try out their public speaking skills with some impromptu speaking activities.

Although the day started with a last-minute change of venue everyone agreed at the end of the day that much fun had been had and students gained some new ideas to add to their kete’s of knowledge.
